On Thursday 23 October 2008, Christopher Paxino was awarded the Rob McGee Medal by Engineers Australia. Christopher is currently in his final year of a combined BCom/BE(Civ) course at Monash.
To recognise the contribution of Rod McGee to Australian public works engineering and durability, the Board of the College of Civil Engineers, Engineers Australia created the Rod McGee Medal. The award is jointly sponsored by the Tasmanian Department of Infrastructure Energy & Resources (Dr. McGee’s former employer), and Johnstone McGee & Gandy Pty Ltd, Engineers and Planners. The Medal recognises and encourages engineering students
to engage in career opportunities in public works engineering. One award is offered each year to undergraduate students in their final year of Civil Engineering. The winner of the Rod McGee medal receives an engraved medallion, $2000 and a certificate conferred by Engineers Australia.
In his application for the award, Christopher was require to write one page outlining his understanding of how Rod McGee’s engineering career helped his fellow citizens, through its recognition of durability in public works engineering, and a second page describing his motivation for embarking on an engineering career, his final year project work and how he imagines this work could benefit his fellow citizens in future. |
