Dean’s Awards for Excellence

Faculty of Engineering staff were recognised for their outstanding contributions during 2007 at the recent Faculty of Engineering Awards Evening.

Winner of the 2007 Early Career Researcher Award

Dr Huanting Wang, Department of Chemical Engineering

Dr Huanting Wang is Reader and ARC QEII Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering. His research is focused on the development of nanomaterials and membranes for advanced fuel cells, energy-efficient seawater desalination and gas separation. Dr Wang has published over 80 refereed journal papers, most of which appeared in the top 10% of journals in the field. He has over 850 ISI publication citations. His work has led to four patents and one patent application. In addition, Dr Wang has attracted over $1.7 million in external research funding, including three ARC Discovery Grants and one CSIRO national research flagship grant.

Winner of the 2007 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching

Dr Kris Ryan, Department of Mechanical Engineering

  Dean’s Awards for Excellence
Dean, Professor Tam Sridhar, Dr Huanting Wang, Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Larkins, Associate Professor Ana Deletic, Dr Kris Ryan and Ms Jill Crisfield.

Dr Ryan completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate degree at Monash University and joined Monash as a lecturer in 2005, after completing a post-doctoral placement at IRPHE, France. Dr Ryan has been involved in teaching several subjects over the last three years in the areas of computational engineering, fluid mechanics and dynamics.

Dr Ryan has been actively engaged in using innovative teaching and learning communication processes. This has involved the employment of online tests, laboratories and recorded lectures for a variety of the subjects he teaches. Dr Ryan is also active in providing real life examples to illustrate theory, often leading to the use of practical demonstrations in his lectures.

Winner of the 2007 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research

Associate Professor Ana Deletic, Department of Civil Engineering

Associate Professor Ana Deletic is in Water Engineering within the Department of Civil Engineering and Director of Research of the Department, as well as the Deputy Director of the Institute for Sustainable Water Research (ISWR). Ana is also Research Manager of the Facility for Advancing Water Biofiltration (FAWB), a $4.3 million research venture between Monash University and EDAW Australia (that includes over 20 researchers and PhD students from three Monash Faculties and a number of industry partners).

Ana became involved in urban water research in the early ‘90s while working on characterisation and modelling of stormwater runoff in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and Lund, Sweden. She became a lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in 1995, where she focused her research on sustainable stormwater management. Ana joined Monash University in 2003 and has attracted over $7 million to conduct research as a lead or co-lead investigator.

Winner of the 2007 Dean’s Award for Exceptional Performance by a member of the General Staff

Ms Jill Crisfield, Department of Chemical Engineering

Jill commenced at Monash as a mature-age student in 1989, and after completing a Bachelor of Economics (Accounting and Finance major) in 1991, worked in several roles at Monash including Finance and Resources Manager for the Faculty of Science before moving to La Trobe University. Jill returned to Monash in December 2004 to the Department of Chemical Engineering as the Resources Manager.

Jill was nominated by her colleagues for her enthusiastic, consistent and tireless commitment to the Department of Chemical Engineering, her role covers the overall management of administrative, financial, and support functions of the Department. Jill has provided outstanding service to support research, develop a social program for the Department and the HDR students while also leading the administrative team.
