Monash University Engineering students and staff were recognised for their outstanding achievements during 2007 at the Engineering Awards Presentation Dinner on the 21st of May 2008 at Monash Clayton.
Students were joined by supportive parents and friends who celebrated with industry sponsors, staff and the wider Monash community, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Larkins, former Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Darvall and former Chancellor Mr Jerry Ellis.
Guest speaker, International Consultants Centre Managing Director, Dr Peter Rogers, inspired students with his message, “When you graduate it will be from Australia’s most international university and from Australia’s leading Engineering Faculty. You have been encouraged to participate in a faculty which encourages leadership training. You have been taught to think, to be courageous, to be persistent and to back your judgement. These are the ingredients of success.”
Dr Rogers was also the recipient of the Faculty of Engineering Distinguished Service Medal for 2008. Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Tam Sridhar said on presenting the award, “Peter was one of Monash’s first engineering graduates, he has since had an illustrious career in engineering and is also on the Board of the Engineering Foundation. He is the consummate alumnus and we thank him for his sterling service to the faculty.”
Professor Sridar also acknowledged the generosity of the sponsors who help make
the awards program possible, “Over the last 50 years Monash has assisted with the development of a whole generation of engineers who now occupy positions of leadership and influence. These alumni and our industry sponsors make such celebrations possible. Our graduates have the opportunity to be part of the transformation in the way engineering delivers prosperity not only to our local region but to the world at large.”
Students were awarded around $100,000 in prize money, donated by generous industry sponsors including Aker Solutions, BlueScope Steel, Civil Contractors Federation, Engineers Australia, ExxonMobil, GHD, Golder Associates, Gurit, Leighton Contractors, McConnell Dowell, Moldflow, Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA), Transurban, TraffixGroup, Unique Micro Design and Wilson Transformer.
